Route Details: On this hike, we start right at the center of town and make our out way via country road that eventually alternates between narrow walking trail and wider dirt road. The hike has beautiful views of the Aburra valley, town of Caldas, and pristine mountains on the other side. We take a detour to check out a shady waterfall of about 25 meters for those willing to climb down into the stream and up a few rocks to get close. We finish the hike in a sector of Caldas called La Clara, where we can walk up the road to catch a bus back to Medellin (or wait and take a bus back to Caldas).

Estimated Time Walking: approx. 6.5 hours, but varies with pace of group
Transportation to and from start of the hike: Public bus, 30 minutes, depending on traffic

Price: 70,000 COP or $24 USD / person – includes hike leader, extreme sport insurance, public transportation, first aid care, sales tax, and information about the area and city.

Difficulty: 4 out of 5: (difficult) The hiking route is long and has long stretches without much shade. There is an optional technical descent into a stream and up some logs/rocks to get close to the waterfall. All participants should have a very good level of physical condition and be without health problems, underlying cardiovascular problems, or severe environmental allergies.

Recommendations / Warnings: Hikers are asked to bring plenty of water (2.5 L), snacks for energy, sun protection, and secure shoes with good grip that you don’t mind walking through water in.
